The Apidura Aero Frame Module is an aero-optimised frame pack for competitive gravel racers, shaped through CFD analysis to minimise drag in the front of the frame, whatever you pack. It comes in three sizes – Small (1.1 L, 169 g), Medium (1.5 L, 205 g) and Large (2.8 L, 235 g) – and, combined with the Aero Top Tube Module, gives an average 5 watt saving at race speed, validated through wind tunnel testing.

Why an aero frame pack – and why this one

Airflow around the head tube naturally creates turbulent air inside the front triangle, and a conventional frame bag does nothing about it. For racers, every watt counts – but so does carrying food, tools and a battery. The Aero Frame Module is built to do both:

  • It reduces drag instead of adding it. Downtube Transfer Panels bridge the gap behind the head tube and down tube, so oncoming air flows smoothly across the bike rather than getting trapped; an upper Skirt minimises gaps around the top tube.
  • It is proven, not just claimed. Together with the Aero Top Tube Module it creates an average 5 watt saving at race speed, validated in the wind tunnel and race-proven at the highest level.
  • It stays put. Silicone-backed Hypalon load straps with a cam lock, a non-slip silicone lining, a Velcro strap on the down tube and low-profile tension bands at the head tube prevent unwanted movement.
  • It keeps its shape. An internal HDPE thermoplastic frame and ultralight Hexagrid material give a structured, minimalist pack with a soft interior base to protect the contents.

Who is it for?

  • Competitive gravel racers looking for free watts without giving up storage.
  • Ultra-distance and fast road riders who want weight low and central on the bike.
  • Riders building a modular aero setup – three top tube modules and two frame modules can be mixed and matched.

Which size? Choose by the dimensions of your frame, not by the capacity you want – the module has to integrate with the frame to deliver its aerodynamic benefit. As a rough guide, the Large suits bikes sized 56–58 cm and above, and the Medium bikes from 52–56 cm; the Small is the most compact option. Check the dimension drawings below against your frame. Note: the sizes were renamed – the former S/M is now Medium and the former L/XL is now Large, with unchanged dimensions.

Key features

Downtube Transfer Panels and upper Skirt of the Apidura Aero Frame Module

Frame integration

Downtube Transfer Panels optimise aerodynamics, and an upper Skirt minimises gaps around the top tube.

Materials & technology

  • Hexagrid – an ultralight, high-strength nylon grid laminated with TPU for a minimalist yet structured material. PFA- and PFC-free.
  • HDPE – high-strength, rigid reinforcement boarding with good shape recall to avoid deformation.
  • Aero optimised – actively improves the aerodynamic performance of bike and rider.
  • Ultralight – minimal design and lightweight materials for optimal weight-performance.
  • Wind tunnel tested – the Aero System's aerodynamic benefit is validated through wind tunnel testing.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Aero Frame Module improve aerodynamics?

Air flowing around the head tube creates a zone of turbulence inside the front triangle. The module's Transfer Panels bridge the gap behind the head tube and down tube, filling this space so that air flows smoothly across the centre of the bike instead of getting trapped – reducing drag and saving watts.

Does it work with steel, titanium or round-tube frames?

Yes. It is optimised for modern carbon frames but fully compatible with traditional round tubes; the slim profile, non-slip silicone edges and silicone-backed Hypalon straps keep it stable.

Can I use it if my bike does not have internal cable routing?

Unfortunately not. The extended Transfer Panels wrap closely around the frame tubes, so external shifter or brake cables near the head tube or down tube will likely prevent a proper fit.

Will I still fit water bottles?

That depends on your frame size and geometry, the pack size and the bottle size – check the clearance on your bike with the dimension drawings. Side-entry bottle cages, or a bottle cage adapter that lowers the cage, help when space is tight.

About Apidura

Founded in 2013, Apidura designs bikepacking bags for long-distance and ultra-endurance riding, tested by riders on events such as the Transcontinental Race and the Tour Divide. The range is built around three families: the fully waterproof Expedition series for touring and all-weather bikepacking, the lightweight Racing series for ultra-distance racing, and the rugged Backcountry series for off-road trails.

Every Apidura product comes with a 3-year producer guarantee from the date of purchase, covering the entire product. After that, Apidura can support at-home repair or recommend a trusted repairer.
