Apidura Backcountry Downtube Pack – 1.8L
The Apidura Backcountry Downtube Pack is an ultra-durable, seam-welded waterproof downtube bag that adds 1.8 L of storage to mountain bike frames – enough for a 1 L water bottle, spares or other essentials. It weighs 105 g, is 9.5 cm wide and mounts without cage bolts on tubes of 12–20 cm circumference.
Why a downtube pack – and why this one
On a full-suspension or compact MTB frame, space inside the main triangle is scarce and bottle bosses are often missing or out of reach. The downtube is free space that most riders never use. The Backcountry Downtube Pack turns it into storage built for the trails:
- No cage or bolts needed. A single Hypalon-reinforced velcro strap fastens to downtubes and similar diameter tubes in one motion.
- Carries a 1 L bottle – or anything else. The roll-down closure gives flexible, compressible capacity for a water bottle, spares or long-distance essentials.
- Built for what the front wheel throws at it. Lightweight X-PAC VX21 body fabric is reinforced with 420D embossed nylon and RF-welded for waterproofing.
- Stays dry when rolled properly. Seam-welded construction – rolled three times, the closure is completely waterproof.

- Spot clean only – stains can be spot treated with concentrated dishwashing liquid. Abrasion is not recommended.
Frequently asked questions
Will the Backcountry Downtube Pack fit my bike?
It is designed to secure to tubes with a circumference of 12–20 cm, such as mountain bike downtubes. It is not recommended for tubes with a circumference of less than 9.5 cm, such as seat stays and forks.
Does it need bottle cage bolts?
No. It attaches with a single Hypalon-reinforced velcro strap – no cage or bolts required – which also allows versatile placement on similar diameter tubes.
Can I carry a water bottle in it?
Yes. The roll-down closure provides enough capacity for up to a 1 L water bottle; alternatively, use it for spares or other essentials.
Is it waterproof?
Yes. The seams are RF-welded; for complete waterproofing the closure must be rolled three times.
