3X3 NINE 9-speed gear hub with TRP Hywave electronic shifting
Electronic shifting on a drop-bar gravel bike, without a derailleur
The Booda Bike Alpine 3x3 is a low-maintenance, belt-driven gravel bike with a steel frame and a carbon fork. Its sealed 3X3 internal gear hub is shifted electronically from the drop-bar brake levers with the TRP Hywave system (wireless, Bluetooth), so there is no derailleur and no shift cable to adjust. The Gates CDX carbon belt drive needs no lubrication and does not rust, and TRP Hywave hydraulic disc brakes and Schwalbe G-One Allround 622x40 tubeless-ready tyres complete the build. It is available in sizes S, M and L for riders from 155 to 200 cm tall. The shift unit on the hub is powered by a power bank, which is not included.
Early bird product: the electronic shifting of this bike is powered by a power bank that sits in the Apidura top tube pack supplied with the bike (the power bank itself is not included). The solution was developed in agreement with the hub manufacturer, 3X3.
The Booda Bike Alpine is our adventure-focused gravel bike, designed for riders who want to explore far beyond smooth asphalt. It is not afraid of gravel roads and is a good partner for long tours. The steel frame and the carbon fork work together to absorb vibrations and give a comfortable, controlled ride.
Low maintenance comes from the drivetrain and the wheels: a sealed internal gear hub, a Gates CDX belt that needs no lubrication, and tubeless tyres with Effetto Mariposa Végétalex sealant that closes smaller punctures straight away.
The drop handlebar gives a comfortable but efficient riding position. With the TRP Hywave levers you brake and change gear without moving your hand, and the hub can be shifted even when you are standing still.

Key features of the Alpine 3x3
Steel frame The frame is the most important element of the bike, so it gets a great deal of attention in the design. Thanks to the material properties of steel, it pleasantly dampens vibrations, yet gives enough rigidity to make cornering a real experience.
3X3 NINE internal gear hub The hub is the 3X3 NINE, a sealed internal gear hub with 9 speeds. According to the manufacturer, 3X3 hubs are fully sealed against dirt, water and dust, use permanent grease lubrication (no oil changes) and can be shifted while stationary and even across several gears at once.
TRP Hywave shifting The shift button sits in the brake lever, so you brake and change gear without moving your hand on the hoods.
Wireless shifting The Hywave levers communicate with the shift unit on the hub via Bluetooth, so there is no shift cable to route.
Hydraulic disc brakes The hydraulic disc brake system is one of the lowest-maintenance solutions available and delivers efficient braking.
Gates Carbon Drive system The Gates Carbon Drive belt system is clean, quiet and virtually maintenance-free. It does not require lubrication and does not rust.
Internal cable routing Every detail of the bike was carefully designed to keep it clean and good-looking, which is why internal cable routing is an essential feature.
Alpine 3x3: how the electronic shifting works
- Shifting. The shift buttons are in the TRP Hywave brake levers. TRP specifies the SW-C8020E bar-end unit for the connection to the 3X3 system, and it is part of the Hywave set on this bike. The levers talk to the shift unit on the hub wirelessly via Bluetooth.
- Power. The shift unit on the rear hub is powered by an external power bank, which is not included; it fits in the Apidura top tube pack that comes with the bike. The handlebar trigger has its own coin batteries (2 × LR44).
- Setup. Firmware update, calibration and pairing of the handlebar trigger are done with the official 3x3 app over Bluetooth.
- No motor. The Auto Downshift function of the 3X3 system relies on speed and cadence data from an e-bike motor. A Booda Bike has no motor, so this function should be switched off.

TRP Hywave levers
Braking and shifting from the same lever: the shift button sits in the TRP Hywave brake lever, shown here close up on the bent handlebar.

3X3 NINE hub with the shift unit
The closed 3X3 NINE hub sits in the rear wheel, with the electric shift unit mounted on it and a 160 mm rotor next to the Gates CDX belt sprocket.

Powered from the top tube bag
The Apidura top tube bag that comes with the bike holds the power bank for the electric shift unit (the power bank itself is not included).

Tubeless gravel tyres
The Schwalbe G-One Allround 622x40 tubeless gravel tyres are supplied with Effetto Mariposa Végétalex tubeless sealant, which forms a sticky layer inside the tyre and seals smaller holes straight away.

Gates CDX carbon belt drive
The Gates CDX belt drive is built for durability. It needs no lubrication and does not rust, and it keeps the drivetrain clean.

Gravel handlebar
The Possible aluminium gravel handlebar is 420, 440 or 460 mm wide depending on the frame size (S, M, L) and gives a comfortable but efficient riding position.

Who is the Alpine 3x3 for?
- Riders who want a low-maintenance bike. A sealed hub, a belt that needs no lubrication and tubeless tyres mean fewer wearing parts to look after.
- Gravel and touring riders who prefer drop bars. The Alpine was designed for long tours and rougher terrain; the Hywave levers put braking and shifting on the hoods.
- Riders who like to shift without thinking about it. A 3X3 gear hub can be shifted while stationary, for example at a traffic light.
- Riders who prefer electronic to cable shifting. If you would rather shift by cable, look at the Alpine Rohloff, which has a Rohloff Speedhub and Shimano GRX levers.
Frequently asked questions
How can I pay?
You can pay via bank transfer or credit card.
Is the Booda Bike Alpine 3x3 a low-maintenance bike?
Low maintenance is a core design goal. The 3X3 internal gear hub is sealed, so there is no derailleur to adjust. The Gates CDX carbon belt does not need lubrication and does not rust. The hydraulic disc brakes are one of the lowest-maintenance braking solutions available, and the Schwalbe G-One Allround tyres are tubeless-ready and supplied with Effetto Mariposa Végétalex sealant. All Booda Bike models use standard components, so any general bike shop should be able to service them.
Which gear hub does the Alpine 3x3 use, and how do you shift with the TRP Hywave?
It uses the 3X3 NINE internal gear hub made by 3X3 (H+B Hightech GmbH), fitted in the rear wheel: 9 speeds and, according to the manufacturer, a 554% gear range. You shift with the buttons in the TRP Hywave brake levers: the levers send the command wirelessly via Bluetooth to the shift unit on the hub, which is powered by a power bank. The TRP SW-C8020E bar-end unit, which connects the Hywave levers to the 3X3 system, is part of the Hywave set on this bike.
Does the Alpine 3x3 need a power bank?
Yes. The electronic shift unit on the hub is powered by an external power bank, and the standard model comes without one. The power bank fits in the Apidura top tube pack that comes with the bike. The handlebar trigger runs on its own batteries.
Is the Alpine 3x3 an early bird product?
Yes. The Alpine 3x3 is an early bird product with electronic shifting powered by a power bank in the top tube pack. The solution was developed in agreement with the hub manufacturer, 3X3.
Does the Alpine 3x3 have a belt drive instead of a chain?
Yes. It has a Gates CDX carbon belt drive. The belt is clean and quiet, does not need lubrication and does not rust. The belt tension is set when the bike is assembled and normally does not need adjusting later; the frame has an eccentric bottom bracket designed by Booda Bike, and if its bearings wear out they can be replaced without touching the belt tension.
What makes the Alpine 3x3 a durable gravel and touring bike?
The drivetrain has few wearing parts: a sealed hub, a belt that needs no lubrication and no derailleur or cassette. The frame is steel, which dampens vibrations, and the fork is carbon. The steel frame tubes are protected against rust with an internal coating, and the bike has a 3-year warranty. The maximum load is 120 kg; the bike can carry more, but only if you reduce the dynamics of riding.
Is the Alpine 3x3 suitable for commuting and long tours?
Yes. The Alpine was designed for long tours and rougher terrain, and an internal gear hub with a belt drive keeps the drivetrain clean in everyday use too. Remember that the electronic shifting needs a charged power bank.
Does the Alpine 3x3 come with lights?
No. The standard model comes without a lighting set.
What size of Booda Bike Alpine do I need?
The Alpine comes in S (rider height 155–170 cm), M (170–185 cm) and L (185–200 cm). The seat tube is 530, 560 and 590 mm, and the reach is 381, 381 and 398 mm respectively. The full geometry table is above.
What is the maximum tyre size on the Alpine 3x3?
The maximum tyre size is 40 mm. The Schwalbe G-One Allround 622x40 tubeless tyre fits this build perfectly; bigger tyres would touch the frame if the wheel is slightly out of true. A 40 mm tyre also fits with mudguards, as long as you do not use mudguard lighting.
What is the difference between the Alpine 3x3, the Alpine Rohloff and the Alpine e-14?
All three are belt-driven gravel bikes with the same Alpine frame. The Alpine 3x3 has a 3X3 internal gear hub with electronic TRP Hywave shifting. The Alpine Rohloff has a Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 shifted by cable with Shimano GRX levers. The Alpine e-14 has a Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 with Rohloff E-14 2.0 electric shifting and TRP Hywire levers.
How is the Alpine 3x3 delivered, and what do I need to assemble it?
We ship the bike as assembled as possible. You only have to fit the handlebar (stem, 4 mm Allen key), the front wheel (6 mm Allen key), the seatpost with the saddle (4 mm Allen key) and the pedals (6 mm Allen key).
What if the electronic shifting stops working?
First press a shift button and watch the light at the handlebar end: green flashing means the shifter works, no light means its battery needs replacing. Then connect to the bike with the official 3x3 app. If the app cannot find the bike, the shift unit has no power, most often because of a faulty USB-C cable to the power bank. Contact us with the error code or a screenshot from the app if the problem remains.
Is there any financing option available?
Not yet, but we’re working on it! :)
What if I don’t like my bike?
If the bike isn’t what you expected, you can return it within 14 days. Please make sure to pack it carefully so it arrives back to us in good condition. You can find the return conditions in our Terms and Conditions.
How can I service my bike?
All our bikes are made using standard components, so they’re easy to maintain. This is a core principle across all our models. Thanks to this, any general bike shop should be able to service your Booda Bike.
What tools do I need to assemble my Booda Bike?
This depends on the model and configuration, but most maintenance and assembly can be done with these tools: 4 mm Allen key, 5 mm Allen key, 6 mm Allen key, and a T25 Torx key.
Do the prices include VAT?
Once you select your country, all prices will be shown with the applicable local VAT included.
Can I try the bike in person before buying?
Currently, we operate as an online-only store, but we’re working on making test rides possible in the near future.
What happens after I place my order?
Once we receive your order, we begin processing it. If all parts are in stock, our team will prepare the components in the order in which the orders were received. If something is out of stock, we’ll check the expected arrival or order it immediately. After that, your bike enters the assembly phase, which usually takes 1–2 business days. Once the bike is built, it undergoes a thorough quality check to ensure everything is assembled correctly. Then it gets packed and shipped straight to your door.
How can I order spare parts?
If you bought your bike through our website, just go to the “My Bicycle” tab in your profile — there you’ll find all components specific to your bike, so you’ll know exactly what you need and can easily reorder.
What if I want a customization that’s not available on the website?
The customization options on our website are based on what we've learned actually make sense over the years. There are very few modifications we are both able and willing to make that aren’t listed online — but feel free to email us at info@boodabike.com and we’ll be happy to discuss it.
