Rohloff Cable box
The Rohloff Cable Box (Art. 8212) is the housing of the SPEEDHUB 500/14 external gear mech where the two shifter cables from the twist shifter end – a complete replacement unit supplied with the cable pulley (8218) and both cable adjusters (8704).

Why a genuine Rohloff cable box?
Complete unit. Rohloff supplies the box with the cable pulley 8218 and the two cable adjusters 8704 – you do not need to transfer old parts.
Quick wheel removal. The cable box detaches from the external transfer box with one knurled screw, so the rear wheel comes out without touching the cable setup.
Fine adjustment built in. The two cable adjusters set the cable tension (about 2 mm play at the twist shifter) and align the gear display.
Fits every DB SPEEDHUB. All disc brake (DB) versions of the SPEEDHUB 500/14 use the external gear mech, and this is its original cable box.
Who is it for?
- Riders with a damaged cable box. After a crash, a fall on the drive side or rough transport, the cable box is the exposed part – replace it as a complete unit.
- Touring riders far from a workshop. A spare cable box is small and solves a shifting failure in minutes on the road.
- Workshops. Keep one in stock for external gear mech repairs on SPEEDHUB service jobs.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new cable box to replace the shifter cables?
No. The cables are clamped into the cable pulley inside the box; the box itself is reused. Replace it only if it is damaged.
Does it fit a SPEEDHUB with internal gear mech?
No. The internal gear mech uses hub cables, bayonet connectors and a cable guide instead of a cable box.
How do I refit it without losing the gear sequence?
Put the hub into gear 14 (turn the hexagonal peg on the external transfer box anticlockwise with an 8 mm wrench) and the twist shifter into gear 14, then place the cable box on the two locating pegs and tighten the knurled screw.
About Rohloff
Rohloff AG from Fuldatal near Kassel, Germany, builds the SPEEDHUB 500/14: a 14-speed gear hub with evenly spaced gears, a 526% gear range and a sealed oil bath. As robust as the hub is, Rohloff sells small wear and replacement parts individually, so a SPEEDHUB is repaired, not replaced.
BoodaBike (Massive Bikes, Budapest) is an official Rohloff service centre, trained by Rohloff, and an official European distributor of Rohloff hubs and parts. We sell genuine Rohloff parts and we are happy to help you identify the right one for your hub version.
