Rohloff Flange Support Rings (8524, 1 small + 1 large ring) sit on the spoke flanges of the SPEEDHUB 500/14 and keep the spokes from tearing out if a flange is damaged – the right set for hubs with an underlined “Made in Germany” marking.

Why fit flange support rings?

  • Protection for the flange. The rings support the spoke flange and prevent spokes from pulling out in case of a flange break.
  • Standard since October 2017. Rohloff fits flange rings to every new SPEEDHUB – older hubs can be upgraded when the wheel is relaced.
  • For heavy-duty use. Rohloff recommends them for tandems, loaded touring, e-bikes, cargo bikes and riders over 100 kg.
  • Matched pair. This version contains two rings of different size, for hubs with the underlined “Made in Germany” marking.

Who is it for?

  • Long-distance tourers. Heavy luggage and rough roads put extra load on the spoke flange.
  • E-bike and cargo riders. More torque and weight – more reason to protect the hub.
  • Anyone relacing a SPEEDHUB wheel. The best moment to fit the rings is before lacing.

Frequently asked questions

8523 or 8524 – which set do I need?

Look at the “Made in Germany” lettering on your hub. Underlined = 8524 (two rings of different size). Not underlined = 8523 (two identical small rings).

Can I fit them without relacing the wheel?

No. The rings go onto the flanges before the spokes are laced, so they are fitted when a wheel is built or relaced.

My hub already has rings – do I need new ones?

Only if they are damaged. When you relace an older hub without rings, Rohloff recommends adding them.
