Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 CC DB OEM2 XXL – 190 mm, 32-hole
The Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 CC DB OEM2 XXL (190 mm O.L.D.) is the 14-speed gear hub with a quick-release axle, disc brake hub cap and OEM2 axle plate – for frames with an IS2000 disc brake mount and the widest rear spacing. 14 evenly spaced gears, a 526% range and a sealed oil bath give you a drivetrain that works with a chain or a Gates belt and needs little more than a yearly oil change.

Why the Speedhub 500/14 CC DB OEM2 XXL?
Fourteen even gears. Rohloff spaces the 14 gears evenly, about 13.6% apart, across a 526% total range – steep loaded climbs and quick flat stretches with one shifter.
Sealed oil bath. The three planetary gear sets run in oil inside the closed hub shell. Rohloff asks for an oil change every 5000 km or once a year – no cassette and no derailleur to clean.
Made for a Gates belt. Belt-drive frames are usually built around a Speedhub. Fit a Carbon Drive sprocket on the Rohloff lock-ring carrier for a clean, quiet drivetrain.
Torque support on the brake mount. The OEM2 axle plate anchors the hub torque on the rearmost hole of an IS2000 brake mount. On the XXL hub it is combined with a FAT Bone or Monkey Bone -10.
DB hub cap for disc brakes. Disc brakes mount on a special Rohloff 4-hole rotor (Ø160–220 mm, for 1.8, 2.0 and 2.3 mm brake systems). Rotor screws are in the box; the rotor itself is ordered to suit your brake.
One shifter, no front mech. All 14 gears sit on one twist shifter with two cables – no front derailleur, no chain jumping between rings. Shift while rolling or standing; ease off the pedals as you do.
Quick-release axle for vertical dropouts
The CC hub has a hollow axle for a standard quick-release skewer. Wheel removal stays simple: the external gear mech comes off by loosening one screw, then the wheel comes out like any other.
Rohloff supplies this version without a chain tensioner; if your frame has no tensioning of its own, add one (8250-10 or 8250-15 for the XXL hub).
Wide 190 mm rear spacing
Rohloff builds the CC DB OEM2 XXL with the same kit contents as the 135 mm CC DB OEM2 version, but with a 190 mm O.L.D. for wide rear ends – only in black, with 32 spoke holes and a disc brake hub cap.
Because of the extra width, the XXL hub needs a FAT Bone or a Monkey Bone -10 for torque support, sprocket remover tool 8509 and, if used, the -10 / -15 mm chain tensioner.
Belt drive, the BoodaBike way
At BoodaBike (Massive Bikes) we started in 2013 by fitting Gates belt drives and gear hubs, and our own BoodaBike Pulse is a belt-drive touring bike with a Rohloff Speedhub.
For a Carbon Drive sprocket Rohloff specifies the lock-ring splined carrier (8540L for the standard or 8540SL for the slim chainline); the 16-tooth sprocket in the kit is for chain use. Tell us your frame and we help you pick the carrier and sprocket.
Who is it for?
- Expedition and world tourers. Fewer parts to wear out on the road: no derailleur hanger to bend, no cassette to replace far from home.
- Riders with quick-release frames. The CC axle takes a standard quick-release skewer, so the wheel comes out without special tools.
- Fat-bike and wide-tyre builders. The 190 mm O.L.D. matches wide rear ends; this version is made in black with 32 spoke holes.
- Riders who want low upkeep. No derailleur to adjust or replace; an oil change once a year keeps the gearbox in shape.

Frequently asked questions
What else do I need for the OEM2 axle plate?
With a disc brake the OEM2 plate is used together with a FAT Bone (8556/8557) or a Monkey Bone -10 (8553-10/8554-10), which Rohloff requires for the XXL hubs. Rohloff also notes that the frame manufacturer must approve torque support on the brake mount; otherwise it is at the rider's own risk. These parts are sold separately in our shop.
Can I use it with a Gates belt drive?
Yes, in a belt-ready frame. Rohloff specifies the lock-ring splined carrier (8540L standard or 8540SL slim chainline) for Carbon Drive sprockets. We build belt-drive Rohloff bikes ourselves and supply the matching parts.
Which tools and spares are different on the XXL hub?
Use sprocket remover tool 8509 (for 148/190/197 mm hubs), the XL/XXL axle-plate Torx screws (8236XL) and the XL/XXL paper gaskets (8714XL). The chain tensioner comes in -10 / -15 mm versions for these hubs.
How much maintenance does it need?
An oil change every 5000 km or once a year. Rohloff notes the hub keeps working even if some oil is lost, but delaying the oil change can damage the gears. The warranty is two years from purchase; wear parts such as seals, sprockets, shifter grip rubber and rotors are excluded.
Can it go on a tandem or cargo bike?
Rohloff approves the Speedhub 500/14 for tandem and cargo use in dedicated versions (article suffix T or C), with a maximum input torque of 130 Nm at the hub sprocket. This listing is the standard version – ask us for the T or C version.
