Rohloff Splined Carrier Standard – Splined sprocket adapter with snap-ring
The Rohloff Splined Carrier Standard (8540) is the splined sprocket adapter with snap ring that mounts Rohloff splined steel sprockets from 13 to 21 teeth on the SPEEDHUB 500/14 at the standard chainline.

Why the splined carrier?
Full sprocket range. Takes every Rohloff splined steel sprocket from 13T to 21T.
Standard chainline. 57 mm on 135/142 mm hubs and 75 mm on 170–197 mm hubs.
Fast sprocket changes. Once the carrier is on, sprockets change in minutes – just remove the snap ring.
Every SPEEDHUB can be upgraded. Rohloff states that all SPEEDHUB 500/14 hubs can be converted.
Who is it for?
- Riders changing gearing often. Switch between sprocket sizes for touring, loaded or city riding without a sprocket remover.
- Owners of older threaded-sprocket hubs. Upgrade to the reversible splined system.

Frequently asked questions
Standard or slim carrier – which do I need?
The standard 8540 gives a 57 mm chainline and takes 13–21T. The slim 8540S sits 2 mm further inboard (55 mm) and takes 15–21T. Choose the one that lines up with your chainring.
Can I mount a Gates belt sprocket on it?
No. Splined Gates Carbon Drive sprockets need the Lock carrier 8540L.
