Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 A12 – E-14 Solo electronic shifting

PREORDER: the Booda Bike Pulse with Rohloff E-14 Solo electronic shifting is available to pre-order now, with delivery from March 2027. It is a low-maintenance, belt-driven trekking bike with a flat handlebar: a steel frame with a thru axle, a carbon fork, a sealed 14-speed Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 A12 hub and hydraulic disc brakes – and you shift gears at the push of a button.

The Pulse is built for daily commuting, mixed asphalt and gravel riding and long-distance touring, in sizes S, M and L. This version has the Rohloff E-14 Solo electronic shifting with the E-14 Trigger on the right side of the handlebar instead of the grip shifter of the standard Pulse – Rohloff. The Solo system has its own battery, charged through a USB-C port, and works without an e-bike motor.

The Booda Bike Pulse. This is the standard Pulse – Rohloff; the Solo E-14 version differs in the shifting and in the A12 hub with thru axle.

Why choose the Pulse with E-14 Solo?

  • Shift at the push of a button. Rohloff quotes just 180 milliseconds for a gear change, and holding the button keeps shifting in steps of three gears.
  • Its own battery, no motor needed. The E-14 Solo is a standalone system: more than 1,000 km on one charge according to Rohloff, charged through USB-C.
  • Rohloff 14-speed gear hub. Evenly spaced gears sealed in a weatherproof hub: no derailleur to adjust. This bike has the A12 version with a 12 mm thru axle.
  • Gates Carbon Drive belt. Clean, quiet and without lubrication: it does not rust and lasts much longer than a chain.
  • Steel frame and carbon fork. The steel frame absorbs vibrations and is rigid enough to make cornering a real experience.
  • Hydraulic disc brakes. Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors: strong, reliable and easy to maintain.

The E-14 Trigger on a flat handlebar

The gears are selected with the Rohloff E-14 Trigger, which sits on the right side of the flat Possible Noirette aluminium handlebar. One press shifts one gear and a long press shifts on in steps of three, so you can change many gears quickly, for example at the bottom of a steep climb. As with every Rohloff hub, ease the pedalling load for a moment when you shift.

The Rohloff E-14 Solo system

The E-14 Solo is Rohloff's standalone electronic shifting: it has its own battery and controller and is independent of e-bike motors and displays. According to Rohloff it works with the E-14 Trigger, with the TRP Hywire brake-shift levers and with third-party shifters, and the E-14 2.0 app is available as an option. All components are tested to IP65 and the battery can be charged from common 30 W USB-C PD chargers. The charger port shows the charge level with an LED, and it warns you when the charge drops below 20%. As with any E-14 bike, pressure washing is not allowed.

Thru-axle frame and Rohloff A12 hub

This Pulse is built on a thru-axle frame with the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 A12 DB OEM2 hub, the version with a 12 mm thru axle and a 142 mm hub spacing, together with the Booda Bike rear thru axle (142/12 mm). It sits on Possible aluminium rims with 32 spokes.

The Gates CDX belt drive is a durable system that delivers high performance and reliability with low maintenance. On the Pulse the belt (115T) runs from a 55T front sprocket to a 19T rear sprocket.

Comfortable riding position

The Pulse has a trekking-inspired geometry: you sit comfortably and upright even over longer distances, and you can still drive the bike efficiently. Schwalbe G-One Speed 622x35 tubeless tires also perform reliably on gravel.

Who is the Booda Bike Pulse with E-14 Solo for?

  • Riders who want a hub gear that shifts at a button. Rohloff reliability with electronic shifting, and no e-bike motor required.
  • Daily commuters. A sealed hub gear and a belt drive that needs no lubrication keep maintenance low in all weather.
  • Touring and trekking riders. A wide gear range and a comfortable position for long days.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Rohloff E-14 Solo?

It is Rohloff's standalone electronic shifting for the SPEEDHUB 500/14 hub. It has its own battery and controller, so no e-bike motor or display is needed. You shift with a handlebar control, which on this bike is the E-14 Trigger, and the battery is charged through a USB-C port.

When will the bike be delivered?

This version is available to pre-order, and we plan to deliver from March 2027. The E-14 Solo system is a new Rohloff product that is just being introduced, so the delivery date depends on the availability of the components.

How long does one battery charge last?

Rohloff states a range of more than 1,000 km on one charge. The battery is charged through a USB-C port with a common 30 W USB-C PD charger.

Do I need a smartphone app?

No. You can shift with the trigger on the handlebar. The Rohloff E-14 2.0 app is optional; with it you can set up the system and check the battery level.

Can I wash the bike with a pressure washer?

No. Rohloff prohibits high-pressure cleaning of E-14 bikes. The components are tested to the IP65 rating, so rain and splashing water do no harm.

Is the Booda Bike Pulse a low-maintenance bike?

Yes, it is built for low maintenance. The gears are sealed inside the Rohloff hub, so there is no derailleur or cassette to adjust, and the Gates CDX carbon belt needs no lubrication and does not rust. The Pulse also has hydraulic disc brakes, tubeless tires with sealant and standard components that any general bike shop can service. Wear items such as brake pads and tires still need regular checks, as on any bike.

How can I pay?

You can pay via bank transfer or credit card.

What if I don’t like my bike?

If the bike isn’t what you expected, you can return it within 14 days. Please make sure to pack it carefully so it arrives back to us in good condition. You can find the return conditions in our Terms and Conditions.

How can I service my bike?

All our bikes are made using standard components, so they’re easy to maintain. This is a core principle across all our models. Thanks to this, any general bike shop should be able to service your Booda Bike.

Do the prices include VAT?

Once you select your country, all prices will be shown with the applicable local VAT included.

What if I want a customization that’s not available on the website?

The customization options on our website are based on what we've learned actually make sense over the years. There are very few modifications we are both able and willing to make that aren’t listed online — but feel free to email us at info@boodabike.com and we’ll be happy to discuss it.
