The Gates Laser Belt Liner V3 is a set with a powerful laser, a calibration rod and an easy-to-read scale for checking the alignment of your Gates Carbon Drive sprockets quickly and accurately. Good alignment helps avoid extra wear, worn belts and drive noise.

Why choose this tool?

  • Laser alignment check. A laser kit for quick-checking how the front and rear sprocket line up.
  • Rod and scale. A calibration rod and an easy-to-read scale give accurate results.
  • Helps avoid wear. Correct alignment helps avoid extra wear, worn belts and drive noise.
  • Works where space is tight. Gates notes that a laser tool can be used when chainstay space is limited or tensioners are in the way.

Why check the alignment?

Front and rear sprockets must stay aligned within ±1.0 mm. Misalignment can cause tooth jump, faster wear, noise, belt derailment or belt failure. The laser makes the check quick, and it helps when the chainstay is hard to reach.

Which alignment tool is right for you?

The Laser Belt Liner V3 checks sprocket alignment with a laser. The Rear Belt Liner finds the belt line of the rear sprocket with a caliper, and the Frame Alignment Kit checks the frame itself for manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

Why does sprocket alignment matter?

Front and rear sprockets must stay aligned within ±1.0 mm. Misalignment can cause tooth jump, faster wear, noise, belt derailment or belt failure.

Is it a tool for workshops or for riders?

Gates designs laser alignment tools for high-volume workshops and prototype builders, but they are useful for any careful builder. Ask us if you are unsure.

Do I need special tools for a belt drive?

A belt drive needs far less than a chain, but the right tension and alignment matter. Gates offers tools for checking tension, checking alignment, fitting sprockets and protecting the belt – see the table above, and ask us which ones suit your bike.

What do CDX, CDC and CDN mean?

They are Gates’ three belt-drive lines for bicycles: CDX (top of the range), CDC (mid-range) and CDN (entry level). Gates rates CDX for hub motors and mid-drive e-bike motors up to 120 Nm, CDC for mid-drive motors up to 75 Nm, and CDN for hub-motor e-bikes and casual riding. The tools here work with all Gates Carbon Drive parts.
