Gates Rear Belt Liner
The Gates Rear Belt Liner is a tool for finding the belt line of a Gates Carbon Drive sprocket on the rear wheel easily. To read the belt line you also need a caliper, which is not included.
Why choose this tool?
Finds the belt line. Determines the belt line of the rear sprocket – the distance of the belt from the frame centre.
Simple to use. A flat gauge plate that makes finding the belt line easy.
For Gates sprockets. Made for Gates Carbon Drive sprockets on the rear wheel.
Caliper needed. A caliper is required for the measurement and is not included.

Why does the belt line matter?
The belt line is how far the belt runs from the centre of the frame. The front and rear sprocket must sit on the same belt line, or the belt runs crooked. The Rear Belt Liner helps you find the belt line of the rear sprocket.

Which alignment tool is right for you?
The Rear Belt Liner finds the belt line of the rear sprocket with a caliper. The Laser Belt Liner V3 checks sprocket alignment with a laser and a scale, and the Frame Alignment Kit checks the frame itself for manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a caliper?
Yes. You need a caliper to read the belt line, and it is not included.
Why does sprocket alignment matter?
Front and rear sprockets must stay aligned within ±1.0 mm. Misalignment can cause tooth jump, faster wear, noise, belt derailment or belt failure.
Do I need special tools for a belt drive?
A belt drive needs far less than a chain, but the right tension and alignment matter. Gates offers tools for checking tension, checking alignment, fitting sprockets and protecting the belt – see the table above, and ask us which ones suit your bike.
What do CDX, CDC and CDN mean?
They are Gates’ three belt-drive lines for bicycles: CDX (top of the range), CDC (mid-range) and CDN (entry level). Gates rates CDX for hub motors and mid-drive e-bike motors up to 120 Nm, CDC for mid-drive motors up to 75 Nm, and CDN for hub-motor e-bikes and casual riding. The tools here work with all Gates Carbon Drive parts.
