The Rohloff Oil Change Kit (8410) has everything for one oil change on a SPEEDHUB 500/14: cleaning oil, SPEEDHUB gear oil, syringe, filling tube and a new drain screw – the simple way to do the yearly service yourself.
Why the Rohloff Oil Change Kit?

Correct quantities. 25 ml cleaning oil and 12.5 ml SPEEDHUB OIL, matching Rohloff’s current fill quantity. 
Biodegradable. Rohloff all-season and cleaning oil are classed as readily biodegradable (OECD 301). 
Clean disposal. The used oil goes back into the 50 ml cleaning oil bottle for disposal.
How the oil change works
With the hub at room temperature, fill in the cleaning oil and ride about 1 km (or crank the wheel for 3 minutes, shifting between gears 3 and 5). Then let the wheel stand 15–30 minutes, draw out the old oil, fill in 12.5 ml of fresh SPEEDHUB OIL and tighten the drain screw (3 mm Allen key, 0.5 Nm).
Only Rohloff oils (gear oil and cleaning oil) may be used in the SPEEDHUB – other lubricants or additives can damage plastic parts inside the hub.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I change the oil?
Rohloff recommends at least once a year or every 5,000 km, so that there is always enough oil in the hub and any condensation or water is flushed out.
Should I top up the oil if the hub sweats a little oil?
No. Rohloff warns that too much oil promotes leaks. A slightly reduced oil level is no problem until the next oil change.
Can I reuse the old drain screw?
Yes, as long as its sealant is not worn. The drain screw must sit no deeper than flush with the hub shell.
