Rohloff Cable pulley
The Rohloff Cable Pulley (Art. 8218) sits inside the cable box of the SPEEDHUB 500/14 external gear mech and turns the pull of the two shifter cables into rotation that shifts the hub.

Why replace the cable pulley?
Heart of the cable box. Both shifter cables are clamped into the pulley and wound around it – cable 1 clockwise, cable 14 anticlockwise.
Clamped, not soldered. Two headless screws M4x4 (2 mm Allen key, 1.5 Nm) clamp the cable ends, so cables can be replaced again later.
Precise transfer. The pulley engages the external transfer box and passes every click of the twist shifter directly to the hub.
Small part, big effect. A damaged pulley or worn clamping screws mean unreliable shifting – the pulley alone is a cheap fix.
Who is it for?
- Riders with shifting problems at the cable box. When the pulley or its clamping screws are damaged, replace the pulley rather than the whole box.
- Home mechanics changing shifter cables. A good moment to fit a new pulley if the old one shows wear.
- Workshops. A standard spare for external gear mech service.

Frequently asked questions
Is the pulley included with a new cable box?
Yes, the cable box 8212 comes with a pulley. Buy 8218 alone when only the pulley needs replacing.
Which way do the cables wind?
Shifter cable 1 clockwise, shifter cable 14 anticlockwise; the cable runs must be completely filled by the cables.
Does it fit the internal gear mech?
No. It is the pulley for the external gear mech cable box.
About Rohloff
Rohloff AG from Fuldatal near Kassel, Germany, builds the SPEEDHUB 500/14: a 14-speed gear hub with evenly spaced gears, a 526% gear range and a sealed oil bath. As robust as the hub is, Rohloff sells small wear and replacement parts individually, so a SPEEDHUB is repaired, not replaced.
BoodaBike (Massive Bikes, Budapest) is an official Rohloff service centre, trained by Rohloff, and an official European distributor of Rohloff hubs and parts. We sell genuine Rohloff parts and we are happy to help you identify the right one for your hub version.
