Rohloff Cable pulley for twist shifter light
The Rohloff Cable Pulley for twist shifter "light" (Art. 8194) is the inner pulley of the current Rohloff twist shifter: it holds both shifter cable nipples and carries the grip rubber – supplied with its O-ring seal.
Why replace the twist shifter pulley?
Smooth grip rotation. The pulley turns inside the shifter housing every time you shift; a worn or damaged one makes shifting stiff or uneven.
Both cables in one part. The nipples of shifter cables 1 and 14 seat in the pulley – it pulls one cable while releasing the other.
Fits only one way. Five blind holes in the pulley match the five pins of the grip rubber, so it cannot be assembled wrongly.
Sealed. Supplied with its O-ring / rubber seal, which keeps dirt and water out of the shifter.
Repair instead of a new shifter
Rohloff sells the twist shifter as individual components: clamp, clamp screws, cable stoppers, housing, pulley, grip rubber and circlip. If only the pulley is damaged, replace only the pulley.
Tip from the Rohloff manual: lightly grease the inside of the pulley for easy operation.
Who is it for?
- Riders with a stiff or damaged twist shifter. Restore a smooth shift for little money.
- Long-distance tourers. Rebuild the shifter at home instead of replacing it.
- Workshops. A standard spare for SPEEDHUB shifter service.

How do I know if I have the "light" twist shifter?
The twist shifter until 2010 is a different design. If you are unsure, send us a photo of your shifter and we will help.
Do I have to remove the cables?
Yes – to replace the pulley the shifter cables come out of it. Grip rubber replacement alone does not need cable removal.
Should it be greased?
Rohloff recommends lightly greasing the inside of the cable pulley.
