Rohloff Cap for cable box – external gear mech
The Rohloff Cap for cable box (Art. 8217) is the replacement cover plate for the SPEEDHUB 500/14 external gear mech cable box, with the knurled thumbscrew shown in the photo.
Why replace the cable box cap?
Closes the cable box. The cap covers the cable pulley and the wound shifter cables inside the box.
Tool-free thumbscrew. The knurled screw is turned by hand – the same type of screw that locks the cable box to the external transfer box.
Simple swap. The cover is held by two Torx screws M4x10 (TX20), tightened to 3 Nm with a little grease.
No need for a whole cable box. If only the cap is bent, cracked or lost, replace just this part.
Who is it for?
- Riders with a damaged cable box cover. After a fall on the drive side the flat cap is often the part that suffers.
- Anyone missing the thumbscrew. Without it the cable box cannot be secured to the external transfer box.
- Workshops. Spare for external gear mech service.

Frequently asked questions
Does it fit hubs with internal gear mech?
No. Only the external gear mech (all disc brake SPEEDHUBs) has a cable box.
Do I need to readjust the cables after changing the cap?
No. The cap does not change the cable setup; just check that the cable pulley turns freely from gear 1 to 14.
Are the Torx screws included?
The photo shows the cap with its thumbscrew. If you also need the cover screws, tell us when ordering.
