The Rohloff Chain Guide CC (Art. 8290) keeps the chain from jumping off the front chainring in extreme off-road riding – especially useful on SPEEDHUB bikes with a spring-loaded rear chain tensioner.

Rohloff Chain Guide CC 8290 front chainring guide
Rohloff Chain Guide CC, Art. 8290.

Why the Chain Guide CC?

  • Chain stays on. Stops the chain jumping off the front chainring on rough, bumpy terrain.
  • Adjustable. Fits seat tubes from 28 to 36 mm and chainlines from 52 to 62 mm.
  • Made for SPEEDHUB drivetrains. With a single chainring and a gear hub, a front guide is all the chain management you need.
  • Downhill-ready. For downhill bikes Rohloff additionally recommends the rear, SPEEDHUB-mounted chain guide (8291).

Who is it for?

  • Off-road and bikepacking riders. Rough trails, long descents – no dropped chains.
  • Full-suspension SPEEDHUB bikes. Chain slap with a spring tensioner is where a front guide helps most.
  • Downhill riders. Combine with the rear chain guide 8291.

Frequently asked questions

Does it mount on the hub?

No. It is a front chain guide at the chainring; the rear guide that mounts to the SPEEDHUB is a separate part (8291).

Does it work with a belt drive?

It is a chain guide for chain drivetrains. Gates belt drives need their own belt-specific setup.

Will it fit my frame?

If your seat tube is 28–36 mm and your chainline is 52–62 mm, it is within Rohloff’s adjustment range.

About Rohloff

Rohloff AG from Fuldatal near Kassel, Germany, builds the SPEEDHUB 500/14: a 14-speed gear hub with evenly spaced gears, a 526% gear range and a sealed oil bath. As robust as the hub is, Rohloff sells small wear and replacement parts individually, so a SPEEDHUB is repaired, not replaced.

BoodaBike (Massive Bikes, Budapest) is an official Rohloff service centre, trained by Rohloff, and an official European distributor of Rohloff hubs and parts. We sell genuine Rohloff parts and we are happy to help you identify the right one for your hub version.
