Rohloff EX transfer box
The Rohloff EX Transfer Box (8216) is the hub-side part of the SPEEDHUB 500/14 external gear mech: it carries the cable drum and passes your shift input to the hub’s shift shaft. A genuine replacement when the transfer box is damaged.
Why replace the transfer box?
The heart of the external gear mech. It sits on the hub axle under the axle plate and transfers every shift precisely into the hub. 
Fitting parts included. According to Rohloff’s parts list it comes with gear 1 (SG01) and the axle-ring gasket kit with axle plate screws (8714). 
Back to factory precision. After a crash or wear, a new transfer box restores clean, defined gear steps. 
Workshop-friendly. It can be replaced without opening the gear unit itself.
How it is fitted
The hub is shifted to gear 14, the axle plate and old gear mech are removed, new paper gaskets go on the axle ring and the freewheel springs are checked. Gear 1 goes onto the shift shaft hexagon with its narrow collar towards the hub, and the axle plate is fixed with five new screws (TX20, 3 Nm).

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the whole external gear mech or just the transfer box?
If only the hub-side part is damaged, the transfer box is enough. If the cable box is also damaged, or you are converting a hub, the complete external gear mech (8213) is the better choice.
Can I reuse the old axle plate screws and gaskets?
No. Rohloff says the axle plate screws and the paper gaskets must not be reused – new ones are supplied with this part.
Will it fit an XL or XXL hub?
Send us your hub’s serial number; we will confirm the right part for wider hub versions.
