Rohloff Lock-Ring tool – for 8540L/8540SL
The Rohloff Lock-Ring tool (8518) loosens and tightens the lock-ring on the Rohloff Splined Carrier L and Slim L (8540L / 8540SL) – the carriers used with Gates Carbon Drive belt sprockets on the Speedhub.

Why the lock-ring tool?
Correct torque. The lock-ring must be tightened to 30 Nm; the tool lets you do it with a torque wrench.
Belt drive ready. Made for the lock-ring carriers that hold Carbon Drive belt sprockets on the Speedhub.
Workshop partner. Also used together with the Carrier removal tool (8522).
Steel. A solid tool for a high-torque job.

Why a lock-ring?
The lock-ring fixes the belt sprocket laterally and, according to Rohloff, eliminates the micro-movement that can occur under Carbon Drive belt pre-tension.
Who is it for?
- Speedhub and Gates belt drive riders. Change or turn the belt sprocket yourself.
- Workshops. Needed for every 8540L/8540SL carrier service.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a hook or face wrench instead?
Rohloff mentions a face or hook wrench as alternatives, but without the lock-ring tool you cannot measure the 30 Nm torque.
Do I need it for the regular splined carrier?
No. The regular and slim carriers without lock-ring (8540 / 8540S) are tool-free.
