Rohloff Snap-ring – Splined sprocket system
The Rohloff Snap-ring – Splined sprocket system (8539) is the circlip that holds the splined sprocket on the splined carrier of the SPEEDHUB 500/14 – a small spare that should be at hand whenever you change or reverse the sprocket.

Why keep a spare?
Holds the sprocket. The circlip secures the splined sprocket on the carrier; it must sit correctly in its seat.
Easy to lose or bend. A circlip can spring away or deform during removal – a spare saves the job.
For snap-ring carriers. Fits the standard (8540) and slim (8540S) splined carriers.
Who is it for?
- Riders changing or reversing the sprocket. Have a fresh snap ring ready for reassembly.
- Workshops. A must-have spare for SPEEDHUB sprocket work.

Frequently asked questions
Does it fit the Lock carrier for Gates belts?
No. The 8540L carrier uses a lock ring instead of a snap ring.
How do I know it is fitted correctly?
The circlip must sit fully in its groove around the carrier. If it is bent or does not snap in cleanly, replace it.
