Rohloff Splined sprocket Steel – Reversible - 16T
The Rohloff Splined sprocket Steel – Reversible (8541–8549) is the steel rear sprocket for the SPEEDHUB 500/14 splined carrier, available in 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21 teeth – turn it over when worn and get a second life.

Why the Rohloff splined sprocket?
Reversible. All Rohloff splined sprockets can be turned over – doubling the service life of one sprocket. Always fit a new chain when reversing it.
Eight sizes. 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 21 teeth – pick the gearing that suits your riding.
Quick change. On the splined carrier the sprocket is held by a snap ring, so a change takes minutes.
Steel for long life. Built for the high mileage of touring and everyday riding.

Choosing the size
Rohloff recommends a gear ratio (chainring divided by sprocket) of about 2.5–2.8 for touring and commuting. Example: a 40T chainring with a 16T sprocket gives 2.5.
Note: 13T and 14T fit only the standard carrier 8540; the slim carrier 8540S takes 15–21T.

Not sure which size?
Tell us your chainring, wheel size and how you ride – loaded touring, hills or city – and we will suggest a sprocket.
Who is it for?
- Touring riders. A larger sprocket gives lower gears for steep climbs with luggage.
- Riders whose sprocket is worn. Reverse it first, then replace it – always together with a new chain.
- Riders changing their gearing. Switch between sizes on the same carrier.

Frequently asked questions
When should I reverse the sprocket?
When the chain starts to skip or the teeth look hooked. Turn the sprocket over and always fit a new chain at the same time.
Does every size fit every carrier?
All sizes fit the standard carrier 8540. The slim carrier 8540S takes 15–21T only. Gates belt sprockets need the Lock carrier 8540L.
Is there a minimum chainring/sprocket ratio?
Rohloff specifies minimum gear ratios to protect the hub. Ask us before choosing a very small chainring with a large sprocket.
