Rohloff Sprocket Wear Indicator HG-Check
The Rohloff HG-Check (3100) is a sprocket wear indicator for Shimano HG (Hyperglide) cassette sprockets – it tells you whether a new chain will run on the old cassette or whether the sprockets must go too.
Why the HG-Check?
Real load test. The gauge is pressed in the drive direction with about 10 kg, just like a chain under pedalling force.
Clear result. Test roller drops freely into the tooth pocket: sprocket OK. Catches on the tooth tip: replace the sprocket.
Checks the right sprockets. Made for 12–21 tooth sprockets – Rohloff notes that sprockets above 21 teeth are rarely worn out.
Avoid skipping. Know before you fit a new chain whether it will skip on worn sprockets.

- Derailleur riders with Shimano HG cassettes. Decide on chain-only or chain-plus-cassette replacement.
- Workshops. Show customers an objective result.

What if the measuring chain slides off the teeth?
Then the sprocket wear is excessive and the sprocket should be replaced.
Can I check a Rohloff Speedhub sprocket with it?
The HG-Check is designed for Shimano HG cassette sprockets. For Speedhub sprockets ask us – we are an official Rohloff service centre.
