The Shutter Precision PL-7 is a lightweight front dynamo hub for 12 × 100 mm thru-axle forks with Center Lock disc brakes – a standard 6 V / 3 W output powers your lights whenever the wheel turns, so you never ride home on a dead battery.

Shutter Precision PL-7 black front dynamo hub with Center Lock rotor mount
Shutter Precision PL-7 – 12 × 100 mm thru-axle, Center Lock, 24 or 32 holes.

Why the Shutter Precision PL-7?

  • No more dead batteries. As long as you are moving, the hub powers your front and rear lights – no charging, no spare batteries, no checking the level before you leave.
  • Standard 6 V / 3 W output. Works with standard 6 V dynamo lights, such as the Supernova E3 series, and with dynamo USB chargers.
  • Center Lock disc mount. The rotor slides on and is held by one lockring – no six rotor bolts to tighten.
  • 12 mm thru-axle. Fits modern 12 × 100 mm forks: stiff, secure and precisely aligned.
  • Low weight. The 7 Series is a clear step lighter than SP's previous thru-axle generation – one of the lightest Center Lock dynamo hubs for a modern fork.

Lights that are always ready

Battery lights fade or die at the worst moment – late in the evening, in the rain, far from a socket. With a dynamo hub the lights are fixed to the bike and connected by wire, so nothing has to be removed, charged or remembered. Many riders simply leave their daytime running lights on all the time.

Combined with a dynamo USB converter, the hub can also charge a phone, GPS or power bank while you ride.

Dimensions for wheel building

A – flange diameter, B – spoke hole circle (P.C.D.), C – over-locknut width (O.L.D.). These are the values you need for spoke length calculation; you find them in the specifications below. If you prefer, we build the complete front wheel in our workshop.

24 or 32 holes?

24H: lighter riders, road and fast gravel wheels, lightweight rims with 24 holes. 32H: touring, bikepacking with luggage, heavier riders and everyday commuter wheels – maximum strength and easy rim choice. Not sure? Choose 32H for loaded touring and everyday use, and always match the hole count of your rim.

Who is it for?

  • Bikepackers and ultra-distance riders. Lights and charging for days without a power socket.
  • Touring and trekking cyclists. A reliable, maintenance-free lighting system on a loaded bike.
  • Year-round commuters. Who ride in the dark in autumn and winter and want lights that are always on.
  • Gravel riders and randonneurs. With a modern thru-axle fork and Center Lock brakes, riding long brevets through the night.

Installation tips

  1. Fit the wheel so the connection terminal is on the right side of the bike, seen from the saddle in the direction of travel.
  2. Check the rotation arrow on the hub body – it must point in the direction the wheel turns when riding forward.
  3. Turn the terminal to face upwards for easy cable routing. Loosen the axle first – do not twist the terminal while the axle is tight.
  4. Use light cable with a conductor diameter of at least 0.8 mm and route it neatly along the fork, away from the spokes.

Frequently asked questions

Does the PL-7 fit a quick-release fork?

No. The PL-7 is made for 12 × 100 mm thru-axle forks only. SP makes separate models for quick-release forks.

Can I use a 6-bolt brake rotor?

The hub has a Center Lock rotor mount. Use a Center Lock rotor, or a Center Lock to 6-bolt adapter if you want to keep a 6-bolt rotor.

Which lights can I use?

Any standard 6 V dynamo light set designed for 3 W hub dynamos, such as the Supernova E3 front and rear lights.

Can I charge my phone or GPS with it?

Yes, with a dynamo USB charger or converter between the hub and your device.

Can you build a complete wheel with this hub?

Yes. Our workshop builds dynamo front wheels with the PL-7 – ask us for a complete wheel with the rim of your choice.
