Pulse

Rohloff 500/14 Speedhub

The Booda Bike Pulse is a low-maintenance, belt-driven trekking bike with a 14-gear Rohloff 500/14 Speedhub: the gears are sealed inside the hub, so there is no derailleur to adjust, and the Gates CDX carbon belt needs no lubrication. With a steel frame, a carbon fork and hydraulic disc brakes, it suits daily commuting, mixed asphalt and gravel riding and long-distance touring, in sizes S, M and L.

14 speeds for comfortable riding

The Booda Bike Pulse features a trekking-inspired geometry. It is well suited to riders who value a wide gear range and a comfortable, durable bike. Its comfort and performance are best used on asphalt, while the Schwalbe G-One Speed tubeless tires also perform reliably on gravel. The frame geometry provides a comfortable riding posture even over longer distances, and the carbon fork adds both comfort and performance. The 14-gear Rohloff 500/14 Speedhub performs well on both climbs and descents. The steel frame is flexible enough to absorb unpleasant vibrations, yet stiff enough to preserve the riding experience.

  • Steel frame. The frame is the most important element of the bike, so it receives special attention in the design. Thanks to the material properties of steel, it pleasantly dampens vibrations, yet gives enough rigidity to make cornering a real experience.
  • Rohloff 14-speed gear hub. The Rohloff hub offers 14 evenly spaced gears in a sealed, weatherproof, maintenance-friendly system. It is very durable and reliable, and well suited to both urban commuting and long-distance touring.
  • About 12 kg. The bike weighs approximately 12 kilograms without accessories, which is low for a steel-framed, hub-geared bike of this type. This is thanks to the high-quality steel frame and the carbon fork. Low weight contributes to a comfortable and enjoyable ride.
  • Hydraulic disc brakes. The hydraulic disc brake system is one of the lowest-maintenance braking solutions. It offers high efficiency at an affordable price and can be upgraded to a higher-end braking system if desired.
  • Gates Carbon Drive system. The Gates Carbon Drive belt system is clean, quiet and virtually maintenance-free. It requires no lubrication, does not rust and lasts significantly longer than a traditional chain. A premium choice for smooth, reliable riding.
  • Internal cable routing. Every detail of the bike was carefully designed to keep it clean and good-looking, which is why internal cable routing is standard.

Choose it with a Supernova dynamo lighting system

Choose the dynamo-powered Supernova E3 Pure 3 lighting system with a Shutter Precision hub dynamo if you want worry-free, continuous lighting on your bike. The rear light can be mounted on the fender, the rear rack or the seatpost clamp, whichever suits you best.

Choose your bike with the battery-powered Supernova Airstream 2 headlight, paired with an integrated rear light mounted on the seatpost clamp. The front light is removable and can also be used as a flashlight, which makes it easy to recharge.

Handlebar options

Order your bike with the standard, comfortable Possible Noirette aluminium handlebar, or upgrade to the Possible Riser Carbon handlebar. Carbon absorbs vibrations better, providing a more comfortable ride, and it is also 300 grams lighter.

High puncture resistance, tubeless sealant

Schwalbe tires are among the best options on the market for our bikes. We supply them tubeless by default, as the sealant helps seal small punctures and reduces the chance of flats. Our bikes are also available with TPU inner tubes, paired with the specified tire model.

Hydraulic disc brakes

Equipped with hydraulic disc brakes for reliable safety. Whether it's emergency braking or descending a slope, you can count on maximum stopping power. We really like the Tektro brakes: they are highly effective and extremely reliable. Our bikes are also available with Shimano brakes as an optional upgrade.

Comfortable riding position

On the bike we need to find the position in which we can sit most efficiently and comfortably. On the gear-hub models this has been achieved as well. Kicking our legs backwards, we can drive the bike most effectively in a "horse-kick" position, yet we can still keep our backs in a comfortable position for a long time.

Carbon rim upgrade

Our aluminium rim is a great choice in terms of value for money, but if you are aiming for a lighter, stiffer and faster ride, upgrading to carbon is worth considering. Carbon rims transfer power more efficiently, absorb vibrations better and offer a noticeably smoother ride. They also provide aerodynamic advantages, which make a real difference at higher speeds or on longer rides. And the premium look? That is just the cherry on top.

Who is the Booda Bike Pulse for?

  • Daily commuters. A sealed hub gear and a belt drive that needs no lubrication keep maintenance low in all weather.
  • Touring and trekking riders. Trekking-inspired geometry, a wide gear range, and rack and lighting options (Tubus Fly Classic, Supernova).
  • Riders who mix asphalt and gravel. Schwalbe G-One Speed tubeless tires in 35 mm width.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Booda Bike Pulse a low-maintenance bike?

Yes, it is built for low maintenance. The gears are sealed inside the Rohloff 500/14 Speedhub, so there is no derailleur or cassette to adjust, and the Gates CDX carbon belt needs no lubrication and does not rust. The Pulse also has hydraulic disc brakes, tubeless tires with sealant and standard components that any general bike shop can service. Wear items such as brake pads and tires still need regular checks, as on any bike.

What makes the Booda Bike Pulse durable?

Its main components are chosen for a long service life: a steel frame that absorbs vibrations, a carbon fork, a sealed and weatherproof Rohloff hub, and a Gates CDX carbon belt that does not rust and lasts significantly longer than a traditional chain. It also has 160 mm hydraulic disc brakes, 32-spoke aluminium rims and Schwalbe G-One Speed tires that are run tubeless with sealant to close small punctures.

Which gear hub does the Booda Bike Pulse use, and why?

The Pulse uses a Rohloff 500/14 Speedhub, an internal gear hub with 14 gears. The ratios run from 0.279 in 1st gear to 1.467 in 14th gear, an overall range of about 526 %. Because the gears are sealed inside the hub there is no derailleur to adjust, and you shift with a grip shifter on the handlebar. The wide range suits climbing, commuting and long-distance touring.

Does the Booda Bike Pulse have a chain or a belt?

It has a belt: a Gates CDX carbon belt drive with a 55T front and a 19T rear sprocket. The belt is clean, quiet, needs no lubrication and does not rust. The gearing is handled by the Rohloff hub rather than a derailleur.

Is the Booda Bike Pulse a good touring or commuting bike?

Yes. It has a trekking-inspired geometry that keeps the riding position comfortable over longer distances, and the Rohloff hub is well suited to both urban commuting and long-distance touring. You can add a Tubus Fly Classic rear rack and Supernova dynamo or battery lighting, and the bike comes in sizes S, M and L.
