The Gates Carbon Drive CDX Black Rear Sprocket – 9-spline is the black version of the CDX rear sprocket for belt-driven bikes with a 9-spline cassette hub. It is available in 19, 20, 21, 22, 28, 32 and 39 teeth, 11 mm pitch.

Why choose this rear sprocket?

  • Black finish. The all-black CDX:Black look for a stealthy drivetrain.
  • 9-spline fit. Made for hubs with a Shimano 9-spline interface, the common cassette-hub standard.
  • Several gear choices. Available in 19, 20, 21, 22, 28, 32 and 39 teeth.
  • CenterTrack, 11 mm pitch. Runs with CDX, CDC and CDN belts.

Which hub does it fit?

This sprocket is made for hubs with a 9-spline interface, such as Shimano cassette hubs. If you are not sure that your hub has this interface, send us the hub model and we will confirm the match before you order.

CDX:Black: what that means

This sprocket belongs to the Gates CDX:Black line: the black version of the CDX line, rated like CDX at up to 4× the life of a chain and for mid-drive e-bike motors up to 120 Nm. Use it with a CDX belt for the complete CDX setup. The belt can be any CDX, CDC or CDN belt, so belt and sprocket colours do not need to match.

Frequently asked questions

Which tooth count should I choose?

It depends on your gearing and the front sprocket, and the belt length follows from both. Gates offers a free Gearing and Center Distance Calculator in its Gates Sanity Check. Send us your frame, crank and hub and we will help you choose.

What does “Black” mean on a sprocket?

On Gates rear sprockets, CDX:Black is the black version of the CDX line – a sprocket line and colour, not a belt type. Any CDX, CDC or CDN belt runs on it.

What do CDX, CDC and CDN mean?

They are Gates’ three belt-drive lines for bicycles: CDX (top of the range), CDC (mid-range) and CDN (entry level). Gates rates CDX for hub motors and mid-drive e-bike motors up to 120 Nm, CDC for mid-drive motors up to 75 Nm, and CDN for hub-motor e-bikes and casual riding.

When should I replace a sprocket?

Check your sprockets from time to time. Worn teeth cause noise, tooth jump and faster wear on the belt, so replace the sprocket when the teeth are worn. A sprocket in good condition has even, undamaged teeth.
