Rohloff Splined Carrier Slim – Splined sprocket adapter with snap-ring
The Rohloff Splined Carrier Slim (8540S) is the narrower splined sprocket adapter with snap ring for the SPEEDHUB 500/14 – it moves the chainline 2 mm inwards compared with the standard carrier, for frames where the standard chainline does not work.

Why the slim carrier?
Chainline 55 mm. With 135/142 mm hubs the chainline is 55 mm (73 mm on 170/177 mm hubs) – 2 mm inboard of the standard carrier.
For 15–21T sprockets. Takes the reversible Rohloff splined steel sprockets from 15 to 21 teeth.
Snap ring included. The sprocket is secured with a snap ring, so sprocket changes stay quick.
Every SPEEDHUB can be upgraded. Rohloff states that every SPEEDHUB 500/14 can be converted to the splined carrier system.

When the chainline matters
A straight chainline means quieter running and less chain wear. If your chainring sits further inboard, the slim carrier brings the sprocket in line.
Who is it for?
- Riders fine-tuning the chainline. When the chainring sits slightly inboard of the standard line.
- SPEEDHUB owners converting to splined sprockets. Choose slim or standard to suit the crankset.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a 13T or 14T sprocket on the slim carrier?
No. Rohloff lists the slim carrier for 15–21T sprockets. For 13T and 14T use the standard carrier 8540.
Which tool do I need to fit the carrier?
A chain whip, a 24 mm tool and the Rohloff sprocket remover that matches your hub spacing (e.g. 8501 for 135/170 mm, 8508 for 142/177 mm). Our workshop can do the conversion for you.
Does it work with a Gates belt?
No. Splined Gates Carbon Drive sprockets need the Lock carrier 8540L.
